Zhejiang University is a state key university with a long history and under the direct administration of China's Ministry of Education. Qiushi Academy，the Pdecessor of Zhejiang University，was founded in 1897 and is one of the earliest institutions of higher learning ever established in China. Reputed as“the East Cambridge" in history，it has always been ranked among the few top universities in China in terms of its comPhensive academic strength showed in teaching，research and social service.
In September 1998，a new Zhejiang University was established on the basis of the amalgamation of the four former inpidual universities，namely Zhejiang University，Hangzhou University，Zhejiang Agricultural Universify and Zhejiang Medical University，which were ail located in the garden city of Hangzhou. After more than one hundred years of construction and development,Zhejiang University has become a national first-rate and world-renowned，research-oriented comPhensive university with solid foundation，strong potentials and its own distinctive features. It is also one of the first group of universities in national“Project 211”and“Project 985”.
浙江大学是一所具有一悠久历史、教育部直属的全国重点大学，前身求是书院成立于1897年，为中国人自己创办最早的高等学府之一。被誉为“东方剑桥”的浙江大学一直是中国为数不多、综合学术实力位于前列的著名大学。1998年9月，在杭的四所学校，即浙江大学、杭州大学、浙江农业大学、浙江医科大学重新合并，组建为今日的浙江大学。经过100多年的建设与发展，学校已成为一所基础坚实、实力雄厚，特色鲜明，居于国内一流水平，在国际上有较大影响的研究型、综合型大学，是首批进人国家“211工程”和“985计划“建设的若干所重点大学之一。
